Better Conversations Every Day (Coaching for Non-Supervisors)
Better culture and better performance starts with better conversations. While coaching skills are valuable at all levels on our organizational chart, this particular session gathers non-supervisors to build connections, share common challenges, and exchange best practices. Join colleagues from throughout campus for large-group discussions, breakout exercises, and relevant practice sessions.
Sessions include:
  • Mar. 23 & 24; 8:30 a.m. – noon both, days
  • May 5 & 6; 8:30 a.m. – noon, both days
  • June 16 & 17: 8:30 a.m. – noon, both days

Ivy Tech Learning at Work
The Ivy Tech Learning at Work program is a fully-funded benefit that offers an accelerated curriculum to enable regular full-and part-time staff to earn an Associate’s Degree in two years. Attend the upcoming virtual information session to find out how to earn an Associate Degree of Applied Science (AAS) in Business Administration or a Business Administration technical certificate from Ivy Tech for free while maintaining your work schedule. For more information, contact the askHR customer service center at askHR@nd.edu or 631-5900.

The Office of the Provost is sponsoring a virtual series designed to provide Notre Dame faculty with continued opportunities for professional development in the online environment. The series starts Monday, Feb. 1, via Zoom. Sessions include:
  • How to Virtually: Teach Effectively Online: Monday, Feb. 1; 1:00–2:15 p.m. Characteristics of effective online teaching/learning experiences, strategies for engaging students in synchronous Zoom sessions.
  • How to Virtually: Present Your Work at a Conference:Friday, Feb. 5; 12:00–1:00 p.m. Presentation organization/structure using Zoom, operating and technical tips (lighting, connectivity, sound), design of visual information (slideware, images).
  • How to Virtually: Network With Your Discipline: Tuesday, Feb. 9; 12:00–1:00 p.m. Using LinkedIn and other professional sites to build an online presence.
  • How to Virtually: Address Speech, Privacy and Academic Freedom in Online Environments: Thursday, Feb. 11; 12:00–1:00 p.m. Discussing sensitive topics online (including privacy concerns), when to use recording technologies and how to keep recordings safe, academic freedom, online speech (intramural and extramural speech).
  • How to Virtually: Recruit Graduate Students, Postdocs and Lab Personnel: Monday, Feb. 15; 12:00–1:00 p.m. Topics: Finding prospective students, promoting yourself as a mentor, resources to showcase your work.
  • How to Virtually: Engage Globally: Wednesday, Feb. 17; 12:00–1:00 p.m. Initiating contact with global partners, sustaining relationships.
  • How to Virtually: Host a Workshop or Conference: Friday, Feb. 19; 12:00–1:00 p.m. Making decisions about format, content, presentation mode, software packages, registration, collection of abstractions, proceedings, etc.
  • How to Virtually: Manage, Coordinate and Communicate With Your Research Group: Monday, Mar. 12:00–1:00 p.m. Maintaining a positive group culture, assessing whether someone on your team is struggling, keeping your team connected.
  • How to Virtually: Pivot to Pursue Opportunistic Funding Opportunities: Wednesday, Mar. 3; 12:00–1:00 p.m. Finding new directions and new fundable opportunities.
  • How to Virtually: Adapt Projects to Unforeseen Circumstances: Friday, Mar. 5; 12:00–1:00 p.m. Options and available University assistance when unforeseen circumstances make it impossible to conduct a scholarly project in the way it was envisioned and/or proposed.
  • How to Virtually: Promote Your Research and Accomplishments: Monday, Mar. 8; 12:00–1:00 p.m. Tweeting about your work, following your colleagues, engaging in discussion over social media,
  • How to Non-Virtually: Unplug and Find Balance: Tuesday, Mar. 16; 12:00–1:00 p.m. The importance of sleep, positivity, etc., and tips and tools to help.
  • How to Virtually: Get to Know Your Colleagues: Thursday, Mar. 18; 12:00–1:00 p.m. Opportunities at Notre Dame to connect with colleagues inside and outside your department.

July Resilient Teaching Boot Camp
The Kaneb Center for Teaching and Learning is offering the following workshops this week as an intensive opportunity to work through preparations for teaching this fall. Register for all four to complete the boot camp, or for individual sessions. The entire resilient teaching workshop series will be repeated beginning the week of July 13 with some offered in Dual-Mode.

Sessions include: Rethinking your Course Design for Resilient Teaching; Assessing Learning in Resilient Teaching;  Strategies for Effective Active Learning and Group Collaboration; Selecting and Creating Asynchronous Content.

Other summer teaching workshops include: Dual-Mode Classroom Demonstration; Panopto Basics; Optimizing Sakai for Resilient Teaching; and more.

Non-degree Certificate Programs for Staff

As communicated in the Town Hall meeting on March 23rd, the College is dedicated to the professional growth and leadership development of our team members. To support that effort, we are excited for the opportunity to encourage the pursuit of our online non-degree certificate programs by offering them at no cost through Bisk exclusively for Mendoza staff. You can find more details on each course at notredameonline.com.

 

 A few points to note: 

  • Courses are 100% online with live facilitated sessions designed throughout the course duration.
  • Each course offered will be taken as a stand alone course.
  • Only one course per person may be taken at a time.
  • "Employees" are individuals in good standing who currently work full-time in a staff position for Notre Dame Mendoza College of Business. Eligibility can not be transferred to others.
  • Mendoza staff who wish to pursue a full certificate or take more than one course must show successful proof of completion before taking any additional courses.
  • Participation in any online course requires supervisor approval.
  • Some courses may have materials that must be shipped to you prior to the course. You will need to personally pay for these shipping charges and will be reimbursed by the college upon providing a successful proof of completion.
  • There are a limited number of free online courses available.

Learn how to grade faster and provide better feedback with Gradescope. This online workshop demonstrates how Notre Dame instructors use Gradescope to reduce the pain and time associated with grading exams and homework. TAs and grading staff also welcome.
