Where I'm Traveling - Diego Wang

An Airline Anecdote to Remember

Over my Christmas break, I embarked on a journey that started with “The Curious Case of the Mismatched Name.”

My airline ticket and passport seemed to disagree on who I was. This little snafu slipped past the eagle eyes of airport security in Chicago, Istanbul and Hong Kong. It wasn't until my departure from Hong Kong to return to the U.S. that the discrepancy caught someone's attention.

After a flurry of phone calls and a bit of head-scratching, the verdict was amusingly pragmatic: "Well, they let him fly all the way here. We can let him go back." And just like that, I was cleared for takeoff!

Istanbul: A City of Stories Etched in Stone

The narrative of my trip took a historical turn in Istanbul. This city is like an open-air museum but without the boring audio guides. Every corner tells a tale older than your great-grandmother's secret recipes. It's where Europe and Asia decided to become neighbors, separated only by a strait that's less of a border and more of a handshake. Walking through Istanbul felt like time-traveling with a tour guide pointing out, "This building's older than your country!"

China: A Showcase of Scale and Smart Tech

As the trip unfolded, the scene shifted dramatically to China, where the past's whispers gave way to the hum of modern innovation. In China, technological wonders are part of everyday life, especially in their public transport system. Nearly miss your train? No problemo! A few swift taps on a smartphone and you're rescheduled for the next one. This isn't just efficiency; it's like having a magic wand in your pocket.

The hotels are no different in embracing this tech-savvy world. There was this delivery robot, a diligent little worker wheeling through the hallways. It's not only functional but also surprisingly witty. In an elevator crowded with guests, it piped up, "I'm a big guy; take up a lot of space. I'll wait for the next one." It's moments like these that turn a machine into something unexpectedly delightful.

In the heart of China's cityscape, a building transformed into a canvas for a stunning 3D spectacle, visible to the naked eye. There, etched against the sky, a figure draped in starlit blue reached out with a realism that required no cinema glasses to appreciate. This digital masterpiece, blending seamlessly with the urban rhythm, stood as a testament to infusing modern technology with the art of illusion, mesmerizing onlookers with a scene plucked from a futuristic tale.
