What I'm Wearing - Shane McCoy

The Joy of Christmas Socks!

For some, November 1 is an ordinary day, possibly filled with the aftermath of indulging in too much Halloween candy. But for me, it's the start of the best time of the year, the moment when I can finally bring out my beloved Christmas socks.

Those who work on the Enrollment or Marketing teams might be familiar with my enthusiasm for sporting quirky, fun socks every day, no matter the season. Christmas-themed socks happen to be my absolute favorites.

My fun socks identity started years ago as a preteen. One of my uncles always told me that wearing fun socks is a must once you get into the workforce. I didn't comprehend or agree with him. My black-and-white basketball socks seemed to be working just fine.

While I was in college, the same uncle started to give fun socks to me for my birthday and Christmas. He told me it was important to build a stockpile of socks for when I entered the working world. “Socks are the best way to break the ice with a new client or before any meeting.”

Now, after several years have passed, I've come to agree with my uncle's advice. However, I haven't let him in on this newfound wisdom for fear that he'll never let me forget it! During these past few years, I've experienced countless instances where people have noticed my fun socks, sparking enjoyable conversations.

While I do have several cherished pairs of socks (like my Notre Dame socks, which I wear every Friday before a Notre Dame Football game), I make an effort to coordinate my quirky socks with my daily attire or the current season. So, if you happen to run into me in the days leading up to Christmas, you can be sure I'll be proudly sporting a festive pair of Christmas socks!
