Marketing's Yixing Chen’s dissertation was selected as the winner of the AMA's prestigious 2021 John A. Howard/AMA Doctoral Dissertation Award, which is one of the top honors recognizing a junior faculty member’s dissertation. Yixing's dissertation, "Linking Marketing to Social and Economic Outcomes: The Case of Cancer Prevention and K-12 Education," examines the effect of a personalized outreach program on liver cancer screening rates. He found that the program simultaneously improved screening rates by up to 24 percentage points and return on outreach program by up to 96%.
Additional note: Yixing is the fourth Notre Dame-affiliated professor to win the award. Previous recipients include Shankar Ganesan, Joe Urbany and Bill Wilkie

Marketing's Emily Garbinsky was chosen as a Marketing Science Institute (MSI) 2021 Young Scholar — a select honor intended to identify likely leaders of the next generation of marketing academics. Recipients are chosen via a rigorous process that includes a review of their CVs, research and rankings, as well as input from former executive directors, academic trustees and current academic fellows.
The Young Scholars Program was conceived nearly two decades ago by a diverse group of marketing scholars whose interests spanned all disciplines within marketing as part of an effort to develop a cohesive class of elite scholars within marketing.
