Muffet McGraw, M&O assistant teaching professor, offers a guide for women seeking to advance their leadership skills in her new book, Expect More!: Dare to Stand Up and Stand Out. The former head coach of the Notre Dame women’s basketball team addresses what she observed as a common challenge faced by women — a lack of self-confidence. The book encourages women to “approach every opportunity not only with confidence but also with swagger.”

While Expect More! is primarily a guide for women to expect more in their careers and family lives, it’s also an important book for men, a primer to help them learn about how to partner with women in family life, how to raise the next generation of strong women, and to work for and with women who are in leadership positions in business.

Jim Otteson, John T. Ryan Jr. Professor of Business Ethics, published a new book about David Hume, considered the greatest of all “empiricist” philosophers and a key figure of the Scottish Enlightenment. The Essential David Hume, published by the Fraser Institute,  summarizes Hume's insights on free trade, commercial society and government debt, which according to Jim have a lasting influence to this day.

Visit the Essential Scholars website for more information and animated videos. Jim also is the Rex and Alice A. Martin Faculty Director of the Notre Dame Deloitte Center for Ethical Leadership and a senior Fraser Institute fellow.
