Participate in MentorND

You are invited to participate as a Mentor or Mentee in a pilot round of MentorND.

MentorND is an online community for Notre Dame Staff and Faculty that provides opportunities for mentorship in service of career development at Notre Dame. This platform is designed to help facilitate career-related conversations with other current Notre Dame community members and offers opportunities to seek knowledge and advice and build your professional network.

All Thrive! members are invited to be part of this second pilot round of MentorND running from late June to early September. Participation in round one is not required so if you were unable to join before, now is the time to jump in and reap the valuable benefits of a mentoring connection. We believe that everyone has something to contribute, so please consider participating as a mentor. More mentors will be needed to make this a successful program. This opportunity is being made available by Thrive! , the employee resource group focused on increasing opportunities for women to be recruited, retained, and advanced as leaders at the University of Notre Dame. As a reminder, Thrive! is open to all faculty, staff, and administrators employed by the University, including men! If you are not already a member, we we invite you to join and become a champion for Notre Dame women!

In this time of social distancing, connecting through mentoring will be more valuable than ever. Join MentorND today!

Return to Campus Reminders
A few key health protocol updates from the University's Return to Campus resource website and the June 26 message from Provost Burish, Provost-elect Miranda, EVP Cullinan and VP Hoffmann Harding:

  • Daily Health Checks: All faculty, staff and students will be required to complete a daily health check. ND has signed a contract for a software support system.
  • Masks: Current policy requires everyone to wear face coverings while on the Notre Dame campus except when alone in one’s office or private vehicle.
  • Physical Distancing: Stay at least 6 feet (about 2 arms’ length) from other people, do not gather in groups and avoid mass gatherings.

Google Chat Replaces Hangouts
On July 1, Google Chat (chat.google.com) will replace Classic Hangouts as the preferred instant messaging service for all ND Google accounts. With this change, individual archived messages in Classic Hangouts will appear in Google Chat. Group messages will not. To preserve group messages, copy them into another document (Google Doc, Word, etc.) before July 1. Details are available in this knowledge article.

Faculty Fellowship Opportunity
The Notre Dame Institute for Advanced Study (NDIAS) promotes issue-engaged, inclusive, and interdisciplinary study of questions that affect our ability to lead valuable, meaningful lives.

During the 2021-2022 academic year, the NDIAS is sponsoring residential research projects that will deepen our understanding of Resilience. This project brings together humanists, scientists, social scientists, legal scholars, and artists to consider how organisms, people, species, and social structures adapt or fail to adapt to novel challenges and the ethical implications of such adaptation.

Go here for more information.

Student Emergency Relief Fund
The consequences of the pandemic have spared no region, industry, or educational institution—including the University of Notre Dame. This economic crisis will have a dramatic impact on many students and their families. Early forecasts predict that current students receiving financial aid will need more, and as many as 500 students not currently receiving financial aid will require it in the fall semester.

Please consider making a gift to Notre Dame’s Student Emergency Relief Fund. 100 percent of your gift will directly benefit those students whose financial status is adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Thrive Committee
Thrive! is pleased to announce openings on each of our committees: Communications, Engagement, Mentoring, and Professional Development & Networking, as well as the Thrive! Ambassadors group. We invite all members to consider nominating themselves for one or more of these roles.

Leadership positions in Thrive! allow you to play a tangible role in enhancing the environment for women at Notre Dame while developing your own leadership skills in a low-risk, supportive environment. You will have the opportunity to build your network outside of your working group as well as gain exposure to speakers and campus leaders. Committees also offer a place to learn and demonstrate skills you may not have the opportunity to use in your current position.

If you are interested in a committee opportunity, please complete the Thrive! Self Nomination Form by May 1, 2020. If you know someone who would be great, encourage her to apply too! Committee positions are one-year terms beginning July 1; members may serve up to three consecutive terms.

The selection of the Thrive! Committees will be administered by the Thrive! Officers and Steering Committee Chair, with the University's diversity statement in mind.

Decisions will be announced by mid-May to give new, continuing, and outgoing committee members an opportunity to work together on transition planning.

Google+ Social Group
During these challenging times, we've found ourselves missing personal contact with our colleagues. So we've created a safe space for Mendoza staff to post how they're doing, check in with others and share helpful and interesting information.

We've created sub-conversations for things like fitness, cooking and mental health. You're able to see as much or as little as you are interested in and can customize notifications to suit your needs.

Please feel free to join the group on Google+. (Please note you'll be asked for your birthday – feel free to make something up, it won't show anywhere).
Once you've joined, return via the Google+ app in the toolbar with your other Google apps. (see photo)
